DONT BEAT YOURSELF UP!!
Logical... easy peasy… Why would I self destruct especially after working so hard to do something which would ultimately better my life?? Well..its nature... We like to put a tremendous amount of pressure on ourselves (or at least I do..) and when we don't succeed.. or slip up... we always feel like we have to start back at ground 0 making that task seem even more unachievable than before. In reality I don't think we have to start back at ground 0- we can pull back and maybe pick backup at level 4 or somewhere where it actually makes sense.
AND THIS IS THE KEY- you have to reflect and figure out when that new task started to become somewhat challenging. Using the fitness challenge example... Usually around weeks 4-6 you may be adding in extra sets to your routines, increasing weights, and maybe even adding in new lifting days. and why...?? because you are getting stronger and it is starting to feel good with this new found activity........ BUT because you are now allocating either more time in the day or actual days to this activity something else in your Macro routine is going to have to be adjusted to accommodate- sorry guys there are still only 24-ish hours in the day...
https://www.timeanddate.com/time/earth-rotation.html (Ah hah! you thought this would only about optimizing your working from home life- albeit some of these post have strayed a bit... keep reading on- in 12 weeks you will be hooked)
Now if you are the most perfect planner of a person and you adjust for this from the onset then you will probably be able to adjust to the new time requirements as you progress in the new activity and people usually through parades in your honor. But if you are like most, you are just glad and pumped to actually be feeling a pump.
Ive been at this for a long time, and incorporating strength training and or some form of cardio into my daily routine is as 2nd nature as breathing. That is what 20 years of routine can do to you. But using my language learning lesson situation as an example... figuring out what I need to change to better my chances of success (look at that nuance, not succeed just better my chances- taking the pressure down a notch) will not only avoid another cycle of anticipatory mastery only to be let down in self defeat but can actually result in acquiring the skills needed to parle mieux en Francais oder schreibe auf Deutsche.
